Fall Colors in Cascade, Idaho.

Right between the hustle and bustle of summer and the holidays, is fall. And what could be a better way to celebrate this respite and bit of peace than enjoying the fall colors? Aspens, the tamaracks, and more are getting their best fall outfits on just for your enjoyment, and Cascade’s Crown Pointe Trail is the perfect place to view them!

This trail is perfect for walking, jogging or biking, and is also doggo and kid-friendly. The trail winds along the shores of Lake Cascade and features very mild elevation gains, making it accessible for most. to enjoy the vistas, sights, smells, and sounds of fall.

Anderson Creek Rd.

Another way to experience the joys of fall in Cascade is to take a drive—and a local favorite is Anderson Creek, which gives you amazing views of Lake Cascade from a vantage point that may be new to you! It’s a hidden gem, and here’s how to find it and what you can expect.

Off West Mountain Road, Anderson Creek Rd winds up to what is called the 4 corners (during the winter there’s a snow hut where snowmobilers stop to catch a warm-up!) and if you continue it will take you down into Indian Valley, Cambridge, and the Council area too. You can also turn and head down to the No Business Loop, which will allow you to come back out into the  beautiful Donnelly, Tamarack Resort area.

Expect great views of Lake Cascade, Tamaracks, changing leaves, and serenity.

Be aware of ATVs and other off-road traffic in this area, and heed posted signs to respect private property owners.

Fall Fishing.

It’s no wonder why fishing is a favorite summer pastime…but fishing in the fall, well that’s one of our favorite fall things of all!

Cooler temps, a little more peace, a little quieter than during the go-go-go months of summer; what’s not to love about drowning some worms (or bait of your choice!) in autumn?

warm lake

Warm Lake.

If you enjoy the mountain air, towering pines, lakes, and fishing, then you must add Warm Lake to your list of must-do’s this fall! There are multiple access points along Warm Lake, and the Cascade Chamber of Commerce can help connect you to accommodations if you are in for more than a day trip.

Generally less crowded in the fall, you will get the opportunity to experience your own little slice of heaven when you feel the peace and majesty of a fall day on Warm Lake, so start making your plans to unwind and drown some worms today.

Horsethief Reservoir

Horsethief Reservoir.

Another great location, just a little bit closer to town is Horsethief Reservoir, a little gem nestled between campgrounds, trees, and epic views. Horsethief Reservoir is a little under 10 miles from Cascade, Idaho and is a local and regional favorite for all kinds of anglers, from the novice to the more experienced. While easily accessible, the reservoir itself is flanked by a mix of privately owned and public lands, so heed postings and when in doubt, the Cascade Chamber of Commerce can help you plan your trip!

Payette River

Payette River.

If you are traveling into the area from the south (as most will be!) the Payette River is hard to miss! It lays like a rowdy piece of white rope alongside Highway 55, only pausing here and there to give you a moment to gawk and dream. But did you also know that the Payette River hosts year-round fishing too? You are likely to catch people fishing along the banks and designated turn-offs if you keep your eyes peeled, and fall is the perfect time to join them!

Lake Cascade

Lake Cascade.

The flagship of this community is Lake Cascade, for hundreds of beautiful reasons, and fishing is one of our favorites too! Whether it’s from a boat, or from the shore, this blue jewel offers a variety of different species to try your skills with and the best news is that you are within walking distance from great eats, spirits, and accommodations!

As always, fish responsibly, and safely, and follow all local laws, limits, and regulations.
