Cascade Dam
When leaving Cascade heading north, you already are probably aware that you are passing over the Payette river, and you may have even noticed the dam to your left, and maybe even a few anglers and waders!
This earthen dam was completed in 1948, after a short delay due to World War 2, and the Cascade Reservoir was created. Lake Cascade has a little bit better ring to it, don’t you think?
Many others agreed, and that’s why the name was changed in 1999.
How to see it:
Instead of simply driving by and catching a glimpse at highway speeds, or checking it out from the bottom, may we suggest something a little more magical?
You can drive right up to the dam, and even drive across it! There is a small turn out at the top that allows you to gaze down the North Fork of the Payette river, and at our rolling mountains and lush valley.
Heading North on Highway 55, turn left on Vista Point Blvd, and then take another left on Lake Way, and then a right on Dam road.
Please be courteous and careful, as this a narrow road, so make sure to yield, be aware of walkers, hikers, bikers, other sightseers, private property owners and campgrounds.
Quick Fact:
Did you know that Lake Cascade is the fourth largest lake or reservoir in the state of Idaho?
We might be a little partial, but we certainly think it just might be the most gorgeous, and easily accessible!
