SDC 2024 cancellation statement:
Due to poor trail conditions the Idaho Sled Dog Challenge board of directors has decided to cancel the 2024 ceremonial start, 100-mile race, and 300-mile race. However, the Warm Lake Stage Race Jan. 24-25 is still a go. We have been closely monitoring trail conditions the past several weeks and with significant recent snowfall had decided on January 15th that the races were still a go. However, present conditions and the latest forecasts are forcing us to reverse that decision. Trail conditions have rapidly deteriorated over the last several days with above-freezing temperatures and rain. According to weather forecasts, conditions will continue to get worse, making the trails unsafe for the dogs and their mushers. With the safety of these amazing athletes being our utmost priority, the decision was obvious. This has been a tough year for mushing competitions, with the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon in Minnesota and our partners in the Rocky Mountain Triple Crown — the Eagle Cap Extreme near Joseph, Ore., and the Race to the Sky near Lincoln, Mont. — also cancelling their events. We will persevere. The Warm Lake Stage Race is still a go. And the Idaho Sled Dog Challenge will return again next year. Our spirit remains unleashed. — Idaho Sled Dog Challenge founder and organizer Jerry Wortley P.S. — Anchorage, Alaska, is enjoying record snowfall this winter, so the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race is very much a go. Which means the lucky winners of our two VIP trip packages worth $20,000 each are in for an amazing experience. Only 500 tickets are available and only about 90 have been sold so far, so your odds of winning are very good. The winning tickets will be drawn Feb. 1, 2024, at 2 p.m. MST
